Schuster, Vincenz An amateur guitarist living in Vienna, Austria during this first part of the 19th century. He is known through his association with Franz Schubert and the arpeggione, a new instrument introduced by Stauffer, the maker of guitars. The instrument was in the shape and tuning of the guitar but the size of a small cello and played with a bow. Schuster was a skillful performer and in 1824 Schubert composed for him the Sonata in A, for Arpeggione and Piano which was later published by Diabelli of Vienna.
